The board and staff noted the award underscores the county’s emphasis on voter access and safe polling sites.
Elections staff said the county ran three statewide elections during calendar year 2024 and that vote centers and early‑voting options continue to play a central role: the office operated 38 polling locations in November 2024, including 15 vote centers, and reported timely results reporting while preserving access. Staff told the board current electronic poll‑book devices are reaching end of life and Apple security updates no longer support them; staff requested $150,000 to procure replacements. County management recommended funding the pollbook replacement and the $250,000 placeholder for a possible state special election; a department vehicle request was not recommended, and staff will explore motor‑pool options.
Supervisors praised the elections team’s outreach, high operational standards and the award. Staff will bring procurement plans and budgeting details back through the FY26 process.
