The proclamation, read by Ray Garcia, deputy director of Public Works, cited the department's role maintaining more than 1,000 miles of county roadways and its implementation of more than $20 million in recent road improvements. It noted the department’s snow‑removal operations, pavement preservation projects, capital improvements and safety programs, and referenced Proposition 403 as an enabling voter‑approved revenue source for some projects.
Board members praised Public Works staff for routine services that affect residents and visitors across the county, from Fredonia and Williams to Tuba City and the northern Navajo Nation. Supervisors said road maintenance, equipment programs and employee training make travel safer and support economic connection between communities.
The board’s action was a formal proclamation; members signed and posed for a photograph with Public Works staff following the vote.
The proclamation does not authorize a budget appropriation; it is a formal recognition asking citizens and civic organizations to acknowledge Public Works’ contributions to public safety and quality of life in Coconino County.
