West Chester Area SD presents four district priorities; Portrait of a Graduate sessions set for May and July

Dr. Reynolds, presenting to the West Chester Area School District Teaching, Learning and Equity Committee, outlined four overarching district priorities and the initiatives that will accompany them for the upcoming school year: Student Learning Experience; Portrait Graduate; Evidence of Learning; and Continuous Improvement.
Dr. Reynolds said the district has prepared three documents for principals and department leads: a presentation to guide local briefings, a one‑page summary of professional learning days and an at‑a‑glance one‑page overview of the priorities and competencies. Molly (identified in the meeting as the designer) synthesized months of material into the one‑page documents, and Jim Ronane, supervisor of assessment and accountability, helped the district craft continuous improvement plans with principals and instructional leadership teams.
Under Student Learning Experience the presenter listed initiatives including MTSS work, high‑school schedule review, restorative practices, exploration of a middle‑school schedule in 2025‑26, elementary departmentalization and deeper‑learning efforts. For Portrait of a Graduate, the district scheduled three stakeholder sessions (two sessions May 20–21 and a third in July) and a culminating launch at convocation in August; staff said they invited roughly 130 stakeholder representatives to participate.
Evidence of Learning will focus on multiple measures that demonstrate student mastery, including common and summative assessments, work on mastery learning and the continued rollout of standards‑based grading (noted as already implemented K–2 and expanding to grades 3–5). Continuous Improvement was presented as school action plans, staffing priorities, collaboration time and strengthened professional learning across the district.
The presenter said the instructional cabinet consolidated priorities and Molly produced the materials; the documents have been shared with the district management team and will go out to school and department leads before the summer. The district also outlined a one‑page professional‑learning calendar that includes three asynchronous choice days (December, January and April) and a mix of required and personalized learning for all professional staff.
Committee members praised the materials and requested that congratulations be passed to Molly and the other staff involved. Dr. Reynolds said the district will continue to touch the work over the summer and into the coming school year.
