The Norton Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve SPR 6 20 25, a major site plan review for 3668 Summit Road that allows a roughly 6,000‑square‑foot addition to an existing industrial building.
City zoning staff told commissioners that the project’s engineer reviewed the submitted plans, the applicant addressed the engineer’s comments and the plans were recommended for approval. “All comments have been complied with and the plans are recommended for approval,” the zoning inspector said during the meeting.
The applicant team said the addition will be built on the south side of the existing commercial building. “It’s just under 6,000 square foot addition to the south side of it,” Matt Duncan of Davie Resource Group said, adding the new space will be primarily open and used for storage and related operations.
According to the site plan and statements at the meeting, the property is I‑1 zoned. The front portion of the building is occupied by an office and serves as the operations base for a trucking business; commissioners were told that portion employs about four people. The applicant and staff noted the plan shows a 1.5 parking‑space-per‑employee ratio, a handicapped space, and large gravel extents used for trailer storage. The back addition will not include plumbing and will be primarily open space with lighting, the applicant said.
Commission members asked a few operational questions about parking and plumbing; no concerns blocked the application. The zoning inspector confirmed the site plan met engineering and zoning comments and that the item does not need to go to city council. Staff said the applicant will receive the zoning permit via email once finalized.
