The Town of Waynesville adopted a resolution approving an updated memorandum of participation with the French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), continuing the town's role in the multi-jurisdictional transportation planning body.
"This is our updated memorandum of participation with the French Broad River MPO. As you all know, it's a partnership between local and state government that makes decisions about transportation planning for the region, and it's a required part of the transportation planning process for states to pull down federal dollars and apply them locally," a staff member said while presenting the memorandum of understanding and resolution.
The staff member explained the MPO structure (Technical Coordinating Committee, Transportation Advisory Committee and prioritization subcommittee) and said Waynesville has used the MPO process to advocate for projects and studies in the region. The presenter noted that the town appoints its TAC and TCC representatives from the council membership and that staff has begun informal succession planning to ensure continued participation.
Council member Joe moved to adopt the resolution approving participation in the French Broad River MPO; Council member John seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote with all members saying "aye."
