Commission confirms Aug. 9 All-Abilities Day at Riviera Beach, pending DCR permit

Pauline Perna, co-chair of the Revere Commission on Disabilities, said the commission has finalized the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) permit application for its All-Abilities Day and is awaiting approval for Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at the Oak Island Bathhouse.

Perna described planned accessibility improvements for the event, including placing vendor tables alongside the beach access mats and working with the DCR universal access group to add a wider temporary mat if needed so attendees using wheelchairs can reach vendor tables more easily. "We're gonna set it up on the opposite side that we did last year… so there is a cement walkway that leads to the beach. Yep. And right from that cement walkway will be the beach mats, and our vendor tables will be on the sides of the, accessible mat," Perna said.

The commission plans to coordinate promotion with the mayor’s communications office, Revere Parks and Recreation and local media; Perna said staff will develop a flyer, streamline the registration link, and explore creating a QR code for easier sign-up. She also noted that if the chosen vendor (Waypoint Adventure) is selected, the city procurement process will be used to make them a preferred vendor, which could take additional time. No final vendor award, budget allocation or contract was recorded at the meeting.
