Nassau County OKs $5.18 million pavement contract; River Road on list

Nassau County commissioners on Monday approved a $5,183,116.20 authorization to extend work under contract CM3359 with Hubbard Construction Company for the countys 2025 pavement management plan.

The 5-0 vote authorizes the chairman to sign Work Authorization No. 5, a county staff presentation said, and funds resurfacing work within the 2025 plan. County staff told commissioners the program will resurface roughly 18 miles this year and, since the program began, has resurfaced more than 60 miles of county roadways.

The authorization is part of the countys multi-year pavement management plan and is within the budget approved for the program. Staff singled out River Road west of Callahan as the largest single project on this years list. Public Works staff said the countys pavement management program will reach about 78 miles resurfaced across multiple cycles with this work.

Commissioner Jay Martin moved to pull the item from consent so the public could hear details. Public Works and road-and-bridge staff answered commissioners questions about miles resurfaced, priorities and the programs history. Commissioner Farnham praised the programs proactive maintenance approach and the staff members who manage it.

The motion to approve was made by Commissioner Farmer, seconded and passed by voice vote as part of the new-business action items.

Implementation notes: staff said the work authorization is within the previously approved budget for the pavement management plan; specific streets beyond River Road were not enumerated in the staff presentation.

Outlook: work authorization paperwork and contractor scheduling are the next steps; staff said representatives could answer detailed route and schedule questions upon request.
