Georgetown swears in three council members; Kevin Pitts reappointed mayor pro tem

The Georgetown City Council administered oaths of office to three council members and reappointed Kevin Pitts as mayor pro tem at a regularly scheduled meeting following certification of the May 3 election results.

Ben Butler was sworn in as council member for District 3 and said, "I'm ready to get to work." Ron Garland took the oath for District 4 and said he was motivated to serve by the city's leadership and continuing population growth, observing the council must "do the very best as a team to make sure Georgetown is a place where people want to come, they wanna live, they wanna play, and in my case, they wanna retire." Ben Stewart was sworn in as council member for District 7; Stewart said he was honored to serve and cited family and community as his motivation.

Before the swearing, departing council member Mike Triggs offered remarks praising city staff and council colleagues and urged the council to retain the city's professional management, telling members, "don't screw that up." Triggs also offered a personal anecdote and gratitude for colleagues and staff; the remarks were part of a short ceremonial portion of the meeting following the canvass.

After the oath-taking, a council member moved to continue Kevin Pitts as mayor pro tem, another seconded, and the motion passed with the council indicating unanimous approval. The council then completed the ceremonial items and adjourned to later begin a workshop as required by the posted schedule.

The meeting included multiple short personal remarks from newly sworn members and a brief recognition of Triggs's service; no policy votes accompanied the oath-taking items.
