Georgetown council approves resolution canvassing May 3 election, declares district winners

The Georgetown City Council voted to approve a resolution canvassing the returns of the May 3, 2025, general election and declared the results official.
City staff presented tabulated returns from the Williamson County Elections Office showing the district contests. For council district 3, the reported returns were Joe Orsack 415 votes (33.28%) and Ben Butler 829 votes (60.66%), with a total of 1,242 votes cast. For council district 4, the reported returns were Dave Richardson 299 votes (34.13%) and Ron Garland 574 votes (65.53%), with a total of 873 votes cast. Council member Ben Stewart was unopposed and therefore was not on the ballot.
The tabulation was read into the record by city staff; a council member moved to approve the resolution and another seconded. The presiding officer asked for the ayes and the motion carried with the council indicating unanimous approval. The resolution makes the canvass official so that newly elected or reelected council members may take office and perform duties authorized by state and city law.
The council did not provide a roll-call tally in the public remarks beyond the presiding officer’s announcement that the motion passed. The council moved immediately to ceremonial and swearing-in items following the canvass.
