Thurston County staff asked commissioners on May 13 to set a public hearing for June 17 at 3:30 p.m. on the program-year 2025 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development annual action plan and an amendment to the county’s 2023–2027 consolidated plan.
Staff said the amendment is necessary because the City of Lacey is becoming its own HUD entitlement community and will no longer participate in Thurston County’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) consortium. That change requires a 30‑day public comment period and a public hearing before the county can finalize the consolidated-plan amendment.
Why it matters: the consolidated plan and annual action plan set priorities and funding allocations for HUD entitlement funds administered by the county for eligible jurisdictions. Removing Lacey from the consortium will change how CDBG funds are allocated and administered in the county service area.
Details: staff thanked local partners for extra coordination this year and said the amendment is limited to removing Lacey from the county consortium; the annual hearing will cover program-year allocations and solicit public comment. The board set the hearing for June 17 at 3:30 p.m.
