Senator Lori Rogich presented Senate Bill 175 to streamline hiring for military personnel and veterans who are certified by the armed forces as JROTC instructors. Rogich said the measure reduces hiring barriers for veterans who wish to teach JROTC in Nevada public schools.
Supporters included the United Veterans Legislative Council and veterans service organizations. Andrew Lee Pilbitt, state chairman of the United Veterans Legislative Council, said the council represents about 250,000 veterans and supports the amended bill. Fred Wagar, representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans, urged committee support as well.
The Nevada Department of Education testified that the amendment removes the previously filed fiscal note and that the bill, as amended, no longer imposes additional costs on the agency. No opposition was recorded at the hearing.
