The Brookfield Town Planning Board assigned members to draft and review sections of the town master plan and agreed to coordinate with the Strafford Regional Planning Commission (SRPC) and other volunteers for data and subject-matter input.
Members discussed required and optional master plan elements and noted that the only mandatory sections are the vision statement and the land-use chapter; other sections (transportation, natural resources, historic resources, community facilities, housing) are optional but commonly included. The board agreed to split the work into sections so volunteers could update or annotate existing content rather than write new material from scratch.
Several members volunteered for specific topics: one member offered to draft population-growth and data sections using SRPC data; another volunteered to help with natural hazards and to contact the emergency manager for input on community facilities and shelter planning. The board encouraged members to look at other towns’ master plans for ideas and to return a one-paragraph summary or five key points for their assigned section at the next meeting.
The board agreed to engage SRPC for technical support and to add an executive-summary draft to the appendix. Members also discussed whether to keep housing as a standalone chapter (many supported that approach because housing is a large topic) and to fold transportation into infrastructure where appropriate. Staff will circulate an assignment list and a timeline for returning draft text to the board.
