The Wauwatosa Plan Commission voted unanimously to approve a conditional use permit to convert part of the Crafty Cow restaurant at 6519 West North Avenue into a second restaurant to be called Outlaw Oyster. The item will return to the Wauwatosa Common Council for final consideration on May 20.
City planning staff described the proposal as a conversion of existing restaurant space. “The applicant is proposing to convert a portion of the Crafty Cow restaurant into a second restaurant to be named Outlaw Oyster,” City staff member Mr. Pinon said during the commission presentation. The proposed operating hours are 11 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Sunday.
Applicant Devin Eichler, owner of Crafty Cow and the applicant listed on the permit, said the expansion is intended to create an additional revenue stream and bring a new dining option to the area. “Were just expanding it into an area that we already had in the restaurant, trying to create another, you know, income stream for the restaurant ... and I think what were doing is, bringing something really fun and unique to the city of Wauwatosa, and there's not much like it in Milwaukee either,” Eichler said.
Planning staff told the commission the required Common Council public hearing was held April 22; only the applicant spoke in favor and no one spoke in opposition. Commissioner Verrett moved approval and Alder First seconded; the commission chair cast the deciding vote in favor and the motion passed unanimously. The commission recorded four members present at the start of the meeting; the staff report and commission discussion indicated the item will go to the Common Council on May 20 for final action.
The commission's action was limited to the conditional use permit; the staff presentation and applicant comments noted no additional permits were requested at this meeting. The Common Council packet will contain the staff analysis and the public-hearing record from April 22 ahead of the May 20 meeting.
