Lennox council discusses possible acquisition of Garfield Street parcel; no action taken

Staff said the property owner of 610 South Garfield passed away last fall and that officials have not yet reached out to the estate or listing agent. "Property at 610 South Garfield, we have 3 properties that we need to acquire to connect South Garfield to West Seventh," staff told the council.
Council members and the city engineer discussed sight-distance and alignment problems caused by the proposed connection, noting the road would intersect near a curve and could change traffic patterns in a neighborhood where sidewalks are not continuous. Members also raised the practical question of whether the house on the parcel would need to be moved if the city acquired the land and reconstructed the right-of-way.
The council heard that the Lenox Area Development Corporation (LADC) has expressed interest in a city parcel set aside for right-of-way if the city does not pursue acquisition. Council members asked staff to reach out to neighbors and the estate to gather more information but gave no direction to purchase at this meeting.
