District construction and facilities staff updated the board on bond-funded projects, reporting steady progress at multiple sites and new cost drivers for the district's supplemental learning center.
Curtis and Seth from Hutton Architects and representatives from construction partners summarized work underway: intermediate and middle school finishes are advancing, the elementary school is completing underground rough-in and concrete pours, and high-school additions are entering early site-staking. Seth, the project manager for the supplemental learning center and the high-school project, said the supplemental learning center drew a strong bidding response—approximately 80 to 90 bids on packages—but the package is over the most recent estimate and the original bond estimate.
Seth attributed the overrun to several factors: an increased footprint for the center compared with the original bond plan, market volatility and tariff-driven cost increases "across the board," additional site grading and utility work when the center was moved south of the high school footprint, and new parking that had to be added to replace stalls lost to the building footprint. He said the overall bond remains under budget because savings in other packages offset the supplemental center increase. The team reported owners' and construction contingencies of roughly 5%–6% that will be tracked monthly.
District staff also presented a facilities recommendation to replace selected HVAC units proactively (rather than wait for units to fail) and recommended "Option 1" as presented after discussions with vendors, Dynamic Controls and BCS. Board members asked technical questions about HRU units and potential future transitions away from them. The board approved proceeding with the recommended HVAC option.
Presenters said next steps include continued close tracking of contingencies, coordinating material deliveries, and finalizing bid awards for the supplemental learning center. Staff noted that timing and market conditions remain risks for schedule and cost, but that crews and trade partners are actively managing sequences to preserve the target openings for next school year.
