The Yucaipa City Council approved a summary vacation May 12 to recreate a parcel at Fifth Street and Avenue E that staff said was inadvertently recorded entirely as public right‑of‑way when the city acquired the property for earlier intersection/roundabout improvements.
Staff explained that several properties were impacted by the prior intersection project; one parcel was acquired in full and recorded as public right‑of‑way, which now prevents the city from separating the dwelling lot for future disposition. The action authorized staff to reestablish the parcel where the house sits as a separate lot so the city may later recommend disposition options (including demolition/addressing blight on nearby houses) through a separate council item.
Council members asked about the condition of adjacent properties; staff said environmental assessments are complete for properties needing demolition and that items will be brought back for contract awards for demolition and remediation in the near future. The motion to approve the summary vacation passed on a voice vote.
