District recommends updated career and technical education materials for video, accounting, office and automotive courses

The West Bend Joint School District No. 1 presented four career and technical education resource recommendations designed to maintain alignment with Moraine Park Technical College and to keep district coursework current with industry practice.
Mister Harder (presenting for CTE) outlined four recommended changes: an Adobe Premiere Pro classroom-in-a-book and a digital production textbook for the video production course; updated accounting materials and workplace-readiness texts for the accounting sequence aligned to Moraine Park; a Microsoft Office certification prep platform for the district’s computer literacy course; and a new comprehensive automotive textbook with a digital option that integrates with the district’s Canvas learning management system.
Harder said the Adobe Premiere materials provide a technical standard so that students earning Moraine Park credit have consistent software skills. He and other presenters said the district and Moraine Park often coordinate purchases to reduce per-seat costs and to ensure consistency for articulated credit. On the Microsoft Office resource, staff explained that the digital prep aligns the certification prep tool with the district’s current certification process and that some grant funds help cover student certification fees.
For automotive, presenters said the field has become more computerized, and the recommended title covers all three course levels and can be integrated with Moraine Park resources. Staff discussed print versus digital pricing and said their preference is digital if budget negotiations with Moraine Park make it affordable. Estimated combined costs (materials plus PD and teacher prep time) were presented as preliminary budget figures; the administration said it will finalize procurement details if the board approves the recommendations at a future meeting.
The board discussed whether print textbooks remain useful for hands-on courses and whether digital platforms can be kept current. Harder said the publishers provide digital editions and vendor support as software and industry standards evolve.
These CTE recommendations were presented for discussion and will be placed on a future action agenda for board approval.
