Parks staff preview summer events and report rising summer‑camp revenue

Wylie Parks and Recreation staff briefed the board on programs and events on May 12 and reported increased registration revenue for summer camps.
Staff said summer kickoff is scheduled for Friday, May 30, with the event running 9 a.m.–11:45 a.m. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 8 a.m. because parking fills quickly. Bluegrass on Ballard is scheduled the next day, where staff plan to hand out popsicles at the Brown House lawn in the afternoon.
Programs staff said this year’s summer offerings include 83 camps over 11 weeks, running May 27 through Aug. 6 for children and teens ages 3–16. Registration revenue through the date of the meeting was 7% higher than the same point in 2024; staff noted 2024 had been the highest revenue season to date and that 2025 had already surpassed that mark by 7%.
Staff also discussed the summer activity brochure: it was sent to the printer the day after the meeting and expected to be distributed starting June 1, but staff warned of shipping and postal handling that can cause delays. Staff said printed copies remain available in person at the Community Programs Center (CPC), City Hall, the recreation center and the library, and that an online version with direct registration links is already available.
Why it matters: Increased camp enrollment and revenue indicate rising community participation in parks programs. Volunteers and residents should note event start times and the availability of online registration if printed brochures are delayed.
No formal votes were taken on programming at the May 12 meeting.
