Commission staff described the commission's 03/10/2025 work plan task to improve communications and coordination with the Carlsbad Historical Society and recommended designating a single point of contact to foster that relationship. Staff said it is “ideal that this individual will ultimately be kind of running autonomously with the Carlsbad Historical Society” while staff would initially support the liaison and attend an initial quarterly meeting to help orient the role.
Commissioner Schreiber made the motion recommending Jacobs as liaison and Day as alternate; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. During discussion, staff reminded the commission of Brown Act constraints: if a majority of commissioners attend meetings and deliberate together on commission business they may constitute a meeting under the Brown Act. Staff suggested naming an alternate so that two of three appointees could attend a society meeting without creating a quorum of the commission.
