UConn T2 offers free speed-feedback signs to towns; delivery and training coming

Jason Hughes of the UConn Transportation Technology Transfer (T2) Center told NHCOG members the center will again distribute free speed‑feedback signs to Connecticut municipalities, with two signs per town and additional training.
Program details: the state-authorized program previously distributed 15‑inch signs; the new round will provide 12‑inch signs suitable for roadways posted at 40 mph or below. The program also offers traffic-data loaner equipment (traffic counters and pedestrian/bicycle counters) and free speed‑management training for local traffic authorities, police and public works staff.
Logistics and outreach: Jason said the T2 Center will contact each local traffic authority to schedule sign delivery and training; municipalities need not take separate application steps — the T2 staff will reach out directly. The presenter thanked funding/partners who supported the program and invited towns to accept the signs and training slots.
Why it matters: speed‑feedback displays are commonly used for calming traffic and gathering speed data to inform engineering or enforcement measures. The loaner equipment and training can help towns collect the evidence needed to pursue traffic‑calming projects or funding.
