Senator Crystal Daley, speaking on the floor, summarized the bill: “AB 306 requires county clerks in certain counties for the period beginning the day after the last day of early voting and ending the day before election day to establish a certain number of mail ballot drop box locations that must be open for at least 7 hours a day. The bill additionally requires ballot drop boxes to be monitored at all times when made available for use and secured during any period when not available for use. The Secretary of State must adopt regulations to establish requirements for monitoring and securing ballot drop boxes.”
The measure passed by the constitutional majority required in the chamber; the secretary reported the final roll call as 12 yeses and 8 noes. The bill was declared passed and ordered to the Assembly.
