Committee amends budget to add $73,000 for annual claims bill; Senate File 3446 recommended to general register

A legislative committee in May 2025 voted to amend its budget resolution to increase the net general fund limit by $73,000 to accommodate the annual claims bill and recommended Senate File 3446 be placed on the general register.

The change to the budget resolution was moved and adopted by voice vote before the committee considered Senate File 3446. "So the only change that you'll see in the budget resolution is to the overall limit on the net general fund amount, and this increases that by $73,000 to accommodate the claims bill amount," said Nonpartisan staff during committee proceedings. The amendment was adopted after the chair called for the question and a voice vote; the transcript records the motion as prevailing.

The committee then moved on to Senate File 3446, described by Representative Frederick as the annual claims bill. "The part about, the exoneration claim is the biggest chunk of this," Frederick said, adding that the payment would go to the individual's estate after the person died shortly before last year's claims hearing. The committee recorded that $65,000 would be paid to the estate of the wrongfully imprisoned individual; the transcript indicates the remainder of the bill funds an individual who was injured on the job.

There was no recorded discussion on either the budget amendment or Senate File 3446. Both motions were approved by voice vote. Earlier in the meeting the committee also approved the minutes from May 2025.

The committee chair, referenced in the transcript as Chair Tokelson, closed the session after the recommendations were made.
