Councilmember Park introduced and recognized three local teenagers — Jake Jung, Dylan Faller and Mason Cohen — for founding Built Back Palisades, a youth-led nonprofit effort to help small businesses recover after recent fires in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood. Park said the group raised more than $100,000 in a few months and established fiscal sponsorship through Legacy Global Programs to ensure transparency in handling donations.
Why it matters: Councilmembers praised the youth-led effort as part of community recovery and economic restoration. Presenters said the organization is focused on directing funds to local small-business owners who lost storefronts or were otherwise affected by the fires, and that 100% of the organization’s receipts will be directed to businesses in the Palisades area.
The teens spoke briefly on their motivations and next steps: continuing fundraising events, meeting with affected merchants and coordinating rebuilding assistance. Park presented certificates of recognition from the city to each of the three founders.
No formal council policy or appropriation was recorded in connection with the recognition; the council-level action was ceremonial recognition and commendation of community leaders.
