The Keizer Volunteer Coordinating Committee on May 8 nominated Laszlo Montoya to serve as the youth liaison to the Traffic Safety, Bikeways and Pedestrian Committee, and will forward the nomination to the Keizer City Council for final appointment.
Montoya introduced himself during public testimony: “Hi. My name is Laszlo Montoya. I am currently enrolled in McNary. I'm a ninth grader. I just want here I wanna be here to help, and I just wanna learn,” he said. He told committee members he moved to Keizer in November and said he wanted to bring a youth perspective to the committee’s work: “I wanna get a youth perspective of how Keizer is… when I look at the team to make Keizer better.”
After questions from committee members about Montoya’s experience and interests, a member moved to close nominations. Committee member Kim Freeman then moved to forward the nomination, and committee member Leslie Bridal seconded the motion. The committee approved the nomination by unanimous voice vote; the committee chair announced that the motion “passes unanimously.”
The committee’s action is a nomination only; the City Council must consider and formally appoint the youth liaison. Committee members noted the council will review the nomination and the candidate will be notified if appointed.
The committee also completed routine business at the meeting, including approval of minutes and volunteer recognition certificates before taking the nomination vote.
