The New Bedford City Council voted unanimously on May 8 to revoke the petroleum license for 441 Cogdaw Street after a public hearing in which a nearby resident supported revocation because the tank had already been removed.
The hearing was opened by the council after the clerk read an order that the petroleum license for one underground 500-gallon fuel tank at 441 Cogdaw Street be revoked. The communication accompanying the order indicated the tank was removed on July 11, 2022, and that a letter from Simon Rock on behalf of the Sons of God Spiritual Baptist Church requested the license revocation.
At the podium, Simon Rock of 441 Cogdaw Street said he supported revocation because the tank had already been removed. Councilors closed the public hearing and then voted on the order. A motion to revoke the license was made by Councilor Ian Aperew and seconded by Councilor Sean Oliver; the motion carried with all members voting in favor.
The council did not record additional conditions or follow-up actions in the transcript. The clerk was instructed to note the revocation in the record and proceed to the next items on the agenda.
Because the council’s action was a formal revocation carried by vote, the outcome is final as recorded on the council minutes for the May 8 meeting.
