Annual Cinco de Mayo fundraiser raises community support for Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels

The 18th annual Cinco de Mayo fundraiser at La Cocina in Richmond benefitted Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, organizers and the broadcast said.
La Cocina owner Andres Novoa and event organizers described the fundraiser as a longstanding community event that helps deliver hot meals to seniors. “We're sponsored by HEB again this year. What a celebration, especially in this times where there's a little bit of uncertainty about funding and that type of thing for our organization,” an organizer said. Manish Seth, board chair for Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, thanked the community and La Cocina for supporting the event.
The broadcast said the fundraiser has raised over $500,000 to date and that in 2023 the event contributed a record $78,000 to the organization. Organizers said funds help deliver hot meals to nearly 1,300 seniors daily and support transportation, fitness classes and other services at no cost to residents age 60 and older.
The program included live and silent auctions; the broadcast did not provide a final fundraising total for the 2025 event or a breakdown of how the 2025 proceeds will be allocated.
