Flower Mound schedules Gibson Grant Log House marker dedication for June 7

The Flower Mound Historical Commission said it will dedicate the town’s new historic marker for the Gibson Grant Log House on June 7 at 10 a.m., and commissioners outlined plans for an accompanying community program with exhibitors, demonstrations and a formal dedication.

Why it matters: the marker is a formal recognition of a local historic structure; the dedication will involve town officials, county partners and community exhibitors and is expected to draw residents and dignitaries.

Subcommittee leaders said the marker dedication and associated program will include about 20 exhibitors (artisan demonstrations, hands-on heritage activities and local history displays), a corn‑grinding demonstration by local volunteers, bonnet‑making displays, members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and cemetery/heritage volunteers. Parks and recreation staff and town officials are coordinating refreshments and site logistics; organizers said Liberty Elementary School parking will be used for event overflow.

One subcommittee member said the program will include remarks from town council representatives and Denton County partners, and commissioners confirmed a formal program and marker unveiling will be part of the dedication. Denton County historical and archeology partners were named as likely participants; the commission also noted an affiliated November archeology fair (“Dig It”) and encouraged volunteers from the county and local artifact groups to participate.

Commissioners discussed exhibitor roles, children’s activities and the need to finalize staff assignments for the day. The commission asked staff to confirm the program schedule, coordinate parking with Liberty Elementary and finalize invitations to town and county officials.
