West Fargo library reports rising digital use, satellite activity and summer events plans

Library staff presented the director’s report May 8 with usage data for the new satellite location and a preview of summer programming and outreach.
Jenna reported the satellite recorded 461 items checked out in April, 390 visitors through the doors and eight new library cards created in that month. She said physical item circulation at the satellite was slightly down compared with the prior April, but overall circulation increased because of higher digital circulation. The report also showed off-site book drop usage declined after the satellite opened; staff moved one book drop to City Hall in March and noted a remaining drop at Cash Wise had decreased in usage.
Youth outreach included ongoing second-grade tours (more than 1,000 students had visited so far this school year) and sixth-grade tours from Liberty. Recent programming highlights included a 1990s-themed family craft night, popular Minecraft craft events that exceeded room capacity, expanded teen Dungeons & Dragons sessions, and strong attendance at weekly movie matinees. Staff also reported active outreach at area colleges for National Library Week and upcoming Library on Wheels stops at Maplewood Park, Dakota Park and Goldenwood Park starting June 2 and running through July 30.
Upcoming events noted in the report include the Friends of the Library used book and media sale on May 17 (10 a.m.–4 p.m.), a summer kickoff party on May 29 (5–7 p.m.), and a RedHawks library night on June 5 where the first 500 kids will receive a free book; Daniel Tiger will appear for a meet-and-greet at that event. Staff said they will continue to track satellite use and may repurpose the Cash Wise book drop if usage remains low.
