West Fargo library approves job-description updates, adds summer circulation intern and third circulation supervisor

Board members approved revised job descriptions intended to remove obsolete reporting lines and brand-specific software names and to split previously generic roles into distinct positions such as youth services manager, adult services manager, circulation manager, cataloger and acquisition specialist. Jenna (Library Director) said the substantive duties did not change substantially; edits were intended to clarify roles for recruiting and long-term staffing.
The board also approved adding a circulation intern for summer 2026. Jenna said the intern program has been run several summers, initially grant-funded through Otto Bremer and supported by the Friends of the Library; the summer 2026 intern compensation was estimated at $3,086.36. The director explained the position typically follows the school calendar and often is filled by high school students; the internship is intended to help with shelving and circulation during the busy season.
Separately, the board approved making a third circulation supervisor position permanent. The library currently has two circulation supervisors, with one staff member serving out of grade during a planned 12-week leave. Jenna said converting the out-of-grade assignment to a permanent circulation supervisor role would be largely budget-neutral for the current fiscal year because unspent wages during the leave offset the change; she said she had already included the cost in the preliminary 2026 budget.
