The planned work would create an enclosed entry (a vestibule) so visitors are contained and communicate with the front office before entering the building, and would close off two interior doors to form the secure area; exiting would remain available through other doors. The administrative presenter said the change was recommended by Homeland Security as an intermediate measure that did not require major construction.
A motion to approve the secure vestibule project was made and approved by voice vote. The presenter said any remaining grant funds would be allocated to a separate door project to complete additional security work. The board did not amend the project scope in open session.
The board directed the administration to move forward with procurement and contract execution consistent with the grant and to report back on final costs and any remaining use of the grant.
