Public Works reports progress on chip seal, new building and paving schedule

During the May 5 meeting Public Works Director Cliff Casper briefed the Duchesne County Commission on crew activity and schedules for road and facilities projects.
Casper said work is proceeding on the department's new building site — crews placed another lift of material, with approximately 1–2 feet of clay still to be brought in and compacted before inspection. He said the department expects lifts to continue weekly until compaction meets inspection standards.
Crews are moving a portable paver (described in the transcript as a pressure/pressing unit) to Duchesne and later to Berlin, with a target of finishing a section of roadway over the next two to three weeks. Casper said the pavement/chip-seal crew will begin shipping millings and sending graders out; he described plans to shuttle crews between planned projects on Route 12, Route 87 and Route 29 in the coming days.
Casper also said the county found and replaced six sections of county coverage last week as part of pavement maintenance, and he reported plans to bring in extra crews (including a proposed short-term inmate crew supervised by the sheriff) if staffing is available to accelerate catch-up work.
Commissioners thanked Casper and asked a few clarifying questions about scheduling and manpower. No formal action was taken; the update provided operational status and directed staff to continue as planned.
