Staff recommends conveyance of small remnant parcels to adjacent owners or entities

Kootenai County staff recommended on May 8 that several small remnant parcels acquired by the county through tax deed or left over from subdivision platting be conveyed to logical owners: in one case to a homeowners association, in another to a school district and in a third to an adjoining property owner. Director Dave Callahan said the parcels are small remnants that remain after subdivision processes and that conveying them to adjoining or responsible entities is appropriate.
At the time of the meeting staff had not received formal offers on the parcels; commissioners discussed sending letters to adjoining owners and the school district to solicit interest. Callahan said the county could prepare background material and a white paper documenting how remnants are created when subdivision plats do not transfer small parcels correctly.
No formal motion or recorded vote on final conveyance appeared in the meeting transcript; staff will proceed with outreach to potential recipients and report back if offers are received.
