Resident thanks board for retention-pond improvements; members list sustainability events

A resident, James Ponzer of 402 Baldwin, used public comment at the Sustainability Advisory Board meeting on May 5 to thank the board and city for improvements to local retention ponds that appear to have reduced fires and chemical incidents, and that residents now use as green space.
"I noticed that there have been no more fires, no more chemicals. We're all happy about it," Ponzer said, adding that neighbors walk pets in the area and he wanted to thank the board if it had a role.
Board members acknowledged the comment and said the board had been involved in the issue. The meeting then turned to announcements: board members listed upcoming community events and recent activities, including an Oshkosh Seed Savers plant swap (May 10), free admission to the Paine Arts Center and Gardens on Mother's Day (May 11), Bike to Work Day (May 16) and the Oshkosh Garden Club plant sale at the Oshkosh Public Museum (May 17). Members also reported on recent events: a repair cafe that has fixed over 500 items across seven events, Urban Ecology activities and a watershed cleanup that registered roughly 1,850 volunteers across about 70 sites in the basin.
The board encouraged members and residents to use the city's calendar and noted several upcoming presentations including a Climate Reality talk at the Oshkosh Public Library and a DNR Urban Forestry presentation to the Kiwanis Club.
