Fulton County registration staff to run Palmetto municipal election; county to process about 300 Coweta voters

Director Williams, speaking for the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections, told the Board of Registration and Elections on May 8 that the department will conduct the City of Palmetto’s upcoming municipal election and that roughly 300 Coweta County voters who live within the city will be processed at Palmetto City Hall.
"We were asked by the city of Palmetto to also to conduct a municipal election, but then we need to also include the Coweta County voters," Director Williams said, explaining that portions of Palmetto lie in both Fulton and Coweta counties and that Coweta voters will be processed only for the municipal race while Coweta County will separately hold the Public Service Commission race for its voters.
Williams said there would be no additional cost to the City of Palmetto for the county administering its municipal election this year; staff will relocate a polling place from Palmetto Library to Palmetto City Hall to make voting more convenient. The department said it has ordered precinct cards on May 2 and expects to mail them by May 17, pending verification of the data file from the vendor (No Inc.).
Board members raised concerns about voter notice. Member Adams asked whether voters had been notified of the change; Williams and Registration Chief Glenn said the cards were ordered and mailing would proceed after the vendor provides the verified data listing. Glenn said the department also posts changes on My Voter Page and that signage is required at polling locations and would be used to notify voters of the change.
Williams said the department reviewed precinct consolidation and turnout patterns and that some changes to polling locations and precinct assignments will be permanent. The department reported a temporary reduction in the number of precincts for the June election with plans to return to a higher number by November if needed.
Board members asked for follow-up: they requested notification when precinct cards are mailed and an updated precinct list so members can confirm the changes. No formal board vote or budget action was recorded on this item.
