After reconsideration and clarification by staff, the committee voted by voice to send House File 1090 to the Senate floor. Earlier votes on the companion Senate file were revisited; the committee later took separate action to refer Senate File 2827 to the Senate Finance Committee because that version contains an appropriation.
Senators described the naming as an honor for a long-serving lawmaker; committee discussion focused on timing and on ensuring the correct bill (the House file) was the one advanced to the floor.
The House file will next be placed on the Senate floor calendar for consideration by the full chamber.
