Missouri senators say FY2026 operating budget on track ahead of 6 p.m. Friday deadline

Missouri Senate leaders said the state operating budget for fiscal year 2026 is nearing completion as lawmakers work toward a 6 p.m. Friday deadline.
Senator Lincoln Hough, chair of the Missouri Senate Appropriations Committee and a Springfield lawmaker, said lawmakers “continue to work toward the 6PM Friday deadline.” He added, “I am very confident that we're in a good position to get this done and make sure the funding is there to continue making the investments that's prioritizing in the state.”
The budget package consists of 12 bills and one reappropriation measure, Senate Minority Floor Leader Doug Beck said, and the measures will next go to the executive branch for final approval. Beck praised the legislative process, saying, “We give credit to Senator Hough, who has run a good process there. Everybody has a say in it.” He also said he was not on the Appropriations Committee but thought it had “done very well.”
The Missouri Senate and House were scheduled to hold the first conference committee hearings this week as final negotiations continued. No formal vote or signature by the governor was recorded in the remarks; Beck’s comments reference the package of bills that make up the operating budget and the reappropriation measure.
Fiscal year 2026 begins July 1, at which point enacted operating budget provisions would take effect. Reporting from the state capital, Dean Morgan.
