North Kingstown to interview top architectural firms for school CIP; interview panel formed and scheduled

The committee must present its recommendation to the school committee on May 20 and, where bond funding is used, the town council on June 9.
Committee members discussed that, because only five architectural submissions were received, the staff will collect completed evaluation sheets from members, average the scores, and bring forward the top three firms for interviews. Members agreed to adopt a short interview format (for example, 15 minutes presentation and 15 minutes Q&A) and to leave reference scoring until after staff or the subcommittee completes reference calls. The committee voted to form a three‑to‑seven‑person interview panel to host the architecture interviews; the motion carried without opposition.
The committee set interviews to take place on Thursday, May 15, beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the high school (room to be determined) and allocated 45 minutes per firm (including presentation, Q&A and a short committee debrief between firms). The panel named to conduct the architecture interviews includes a mix of committee and town representatives slated to report back with a recommendation for the school committee’s May 20 meeting. If the school committee approves a firm, the district intends to negotiate fees with the selected firm; negotiated amounts for contracted work that use bond funds will be subject to town council approval.
No final architecture award was made at the meeting; the committee limited its action to forming the interview panel and setting the interview schedule.
