Miramar confirms multiple advisory-board appointments and approves consent agenda

The Miramar City Commission on May 7 approved appointments to multiple advisory boards and passed the consent agenda in a single motion.
Staff presented the proposed appointments and the commission discussed several contested seats before voting to confirm the slate. Notable confirmations included Ryan Coutts (Residential Home Building Industry seat) and Ian Evans Smith (mortgage/banking industry) for the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee; Annette Payne (advocate for low-income persons); Stephanie Elvin Prazume (not-for-profit developer); and Tamika Moses was confirmed for the real-estate-professional seat over a reapplying incumbent, Myra Martinez, after commissioners discussed the candidates.
Other appointments across boards included Kimon Edwards to the Civil Service Board; Valerie Figueroa and Cheryl D. Larkin to the Cultural Center/Arts Park advisory board (placements and some seats deferred to the next meeting); Sean Jones to the Economic Development Advisory Board; and various parks, historic and pension board nominees. Several seats were deferred to the next meeting where no applicant or a commissioner's appointment was pending.
The clerk reported no public requests to speak on the consent agenda; the motion to approve the consent agenda passed with all five commissioners voting yes: Commissioner Chambers; Commissioner Sherzard; Vice Mayor Coburn; Commissioner Edwards; and Mayor Wayne Messam.
Commissioners noted that some boards received multiple applications and that several at-large or specific-seat appointments were deferred for the next regular meeting. Staff will update the record and notify appointees.
