Miramar names Multi Service Complex for Alexandra P. Davis after unanimous vote

The Miramar City Commission voted unanimously on May 7 to name the city's Multi Service Complex in honor of Alexandra P. Davis.
Vice Mayor Coburn introduced the resolution, describing Davis as a long-serving public official with years of service to Miramar and Broward County and noting her role in advancing public-safety projects and other city investments. Several commissioners spoke in favor of the renaming and recounted Davis' contributions to the city.
Commissioner Edwards said he had received an objection letter from a community member and met with that person to discuss the concerns; Edwards said the conversation led him to support the renaming. Commissioner Sherzard praised Davis' long service and urged colleagues to "give her her flowers while she's alive," a phrase used during the discussion.
The resolution passed by recorded vote with all five commissioners voting yes: Commissioner Chambers; Commissioner Sherzard; Vice Mayor Coburn; Commissioner Edwards; and Mayor Wayne Messam. Vice Mayor Coburn said the decision was intended as a recognition of Davis' public service and achievements.
City staff will work on signage and the administrative steps necessary to change the building's name and update city materials.
