Staff reported that locating the force main and a gas line could require altering trenching and backfill plans; that change would likely produce a contractor change order and a different stone specification (discussed as “number 70”) to provide improved compaction under the pipe. Staff said contingency funds exist for the project and that contractor pay applications and any change orders are expected for review at next month’s pay‑app meeting.
The board heard that County Highway will close the road at the worksite the following Monday through Wednesday for construction access and that crews will remove three trees in the project footprint. Staff also reported the outfall at the river and the path and bridge entrance up to the first structure south of Old 30 have been constructed.
Board members asked about signage and branding to coincide with a hoped‑for late‑summer trail opening. Staff said logos and some design files exist and that the county graphic designer can supply print files; the board discussed coordinating a final sign design with county staff and with the trail project manager so signs are ready before opening. John Nelson was noted as back on site after bereavement leave and as the staff contact who will circulate further updates by email.
The board also discussed routine project administration: contractors will submit monthly pay applications for the board or staff to review and, if needed, attach change orders to those pay applications for approval. Staff emphasized that the type of change discussed is common in utility relocations.
