GREEN RIVER, Utah — The Green River City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a community benefit agreement with a lithium company identified in the record as A1 Lithium.
Under the agreement the company committed to hire about 55 full-time employees at full operation, to create internships and training tied to local schools, and to contribute $100,000 annually (when at full operation) to a city-designated fund for local infrastructure and community facility upgrades. The council approved formation of an advisory committee to help steer the spending of those funds; the mayor and staff emphasized the committee would be advisory only and the elected council retains final authority over expenditures.
The agreement notes the city will assist the company with zoning and permitting matters "within all legal boundaries," but it does not remove legal permitting requirements. Councilmembers said the partnership language includes local hiring and training provisions they saw as beneficial to the community.
