White County commissioners approved a motion allowing the highway department to sell equipment and vehicles no longer in use. Items listed by highway staff included snow plows, an older motor grader (JD 570), generators, tailgate sanders, hydraulic tanks, truck hubs, tires, and other obsolete parts.
Highway staff said most items will be sold through the online auction platform GovDeals, typically for two weeks; staff noted they can set minimum prices and sometimes extend listing periods (one motor grader was proposed to be listed for 30 days). If items do not sell, staff said scrap options will be pursued; staff reported current scrap steel prices during discussion (an example cited was about $190 for a 2,500-pound snow plow).
A motion to authorize the highway department to sell the items was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners discussed retaining one snow plow for airport use and using minimum bids when appropriate.
