The White County Board of Commissioners approved a right-of-use agreement allowing the Friends of the Library to use an empty room in the old Ivy Tech building to store and sell donated books.
The agreement permits the Friends of the Library to operate from the room Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays. The group requested the space after having to store books in a private garage while the new library building is completed; the county and the Friends agreed to a lease term running through February to allow for potential project delays beyond a stated library reopening in November.
"Our primary purpose is fundraising or projects they might wanna do that is not included in their budget," said the Friends of the Library president, who spoke at the meeting. "By selling these books, we generate money to give them for special projects." The president said the group has been storing books in a garage and would benefit from a more organized space for sales and volunteers.
A motion to approve the agreement was made, seconded and passed by voice vote. No specific financial terms (such as rent or county support) were stated in the meeting record.
