City schedules park repairs, limits Slaterville Park rentals during reconstruction and readies July 4 plans

City staff outlined maintenance and improvement plans for Marriott Park and Slaterville Park and reviewed assignments for the July 4 celebration.
Staff said Marriott Park has sustained wear to its bowery, damaged soffit and doors that do not lock. Painting and door replacement are scheduled before July 4; a larger soffit replacement using batten-and-board materials (estimated at about $12,000–$14,000) will be proposed next month because it exceeds the city manager approval limit. Staff said the work at Marriott Park will be completed after the fourth.
Slaterville Park will be under reconstruction for a ramp project and will not be available for rental during the work. The council packet included a county award of $530,000 toward the Slaterville Park ramp; the interlocal agreement was approved elsewhere on the agenda.
Staff also discussed replacing older picnic grills used at events and noted supplies ordered for the parade breakfast (200 breakfasts ordered this year, up from 150). Event assignments were reviewed: flag ceremony and color guard, MC duties, ticket help and breakfast logistics. Several council members asked for patience as new volunteers assume roles this year.
Staff said they will return next month with bids for additional park soffit/repair work and asked the council to decide whether to do similar work at Slaterville Park while reconstruction is underway.
