City staff reviews April spring cleanup pilot; council asks for trimmed schedule and cost review

Jake from Public Works said the city tried a monthlong program in April that combined daytime drop-off access with after-hours openings on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. He said the program used four dumpsters during April (down from about six in prior years) and that staff tracked 23 residents using after-hours access across the month. He said extra manpower for the extended hours cost about $2,860.
Council members who spoke said residents appreciate Saturday access but suggested trimming the schedule to the busiest weeks (two to three weeks), shifting Saturday start times later in the morning and keeping at least one weeknight opening. Staff noted the busiest demand clustered late in April and that weather can affect turnout; they said they could extend availability into May if bad weather forced cancellations.
No formal vote was taken. Jake said he would return with a proposal for the fall cleanup that balances convenience and staffing costs.
