District discusses Schneider Electric proposal tied to roof, HVAC work; board to review full scope and costs

Lake County Schools staff discussed a potential energy-efficiency partnership with Schneider Electric and said the company's work would focus on building controls and programs to save energy rather than on individual thermostat units.

A district speaker explained that Schneider Electric's value proposition centers on building-level programs and controls: "We're not trying to get into motion sensors or anything like that, but it's basically focusing on what happens when there's nobody in the building to save us money," the staff member said. The district emphasized that the firm's recommendations would be presented to the board with a scope of work and costs before any commitment.

Staff said some of the work depends on completing roofing repairs by Harrah Ball Roofing; once roofs are fixed, certain controls work would be more effective because water intrusion had affected existing systems. The district said it has not awarded a contract to Schneider Electric and that the company is being asked to present a final scope and cost estimate for board consideration.

Board members asked about the timing and whether work would be over-committed; staff said the district is working to avoid overextending resources and wants to ensure committed funds will cover the project. No formal contract award or funding authorization was recorded during the meeting.
