Planning staff report: Legato Estates plat, Switchyard groundbreaking, seminars and new senior planner

Planning Manager Eric Swanson gave the commission several administrative updates, summarizing recent and upcoming items handled by staff and opportunities for commissioner participation.
Swanson said the Legato Estates partial preliminary plat (Parcel E at Power and Ocotillo at the southwest corner) had been reviewed administratively rather than being taken to commission. He reported the Switchyard project held a groundbreaking "on the seventh" and that construction activity is anticipated to move forward quickly. Swanson also reported single‑family building permits totaled 119 for April, about one‑third lower than the same month last year, and said the town remains active on multiple fronts.
Swanson encouraged commissioners to participate in the annual land use law update seminar, which he said is on June 6, typically runs about 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Phoenix, and will be paid for by the town. He also introduced the new senior planner, Zachary (Zach) Wedeen.
Zachary Wedeen briefly described his background: he interned with the City of Chandler, worked in private development and with the City of Phoenix as a site planner, and said he attended Arizona State University. "I'm happy to be a part of Queen Creek," Wedeen said, and offered to answer questions and assist the commission as he settles into the role.
Swanson closed the administrative items and the meeting moved to the next agenda components.
