Kings County to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day; CHP to hold memorial May 14

The Kings County Board of Supervisors accepted a presentation from Lieutenant Matt Drury of the California Highway Patrol and agreed to a proclamation recognizing May 14, 2025, as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week of May 15–21 as Police Week in Kings County.
Veronica Mello, administrative analyst in the county administrative office, introduced Lieutenant Drury, who described the nationwide observance and asked the board to adopt a proclamation. Drury said the ceremony would be held at the Kings County Government Center courtyard the next day at 10 a.m. and noted that four California officers who died in the line of duty in 2024 would be memorialized.
Drury briefed the board on the origin of the observance, saying President John F. Kennedy established the day in 1962 and that each sitting president has since proclaimed May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day. Drury invited board members and the public to attend the ceremony.
The board accepted the proclamation and scheduled a presentation/photo opportunity at the dais. County staff said the proclamation would be presented and become part of the official record; no further action was required.
