Owner requests removal while magistrate finds unfit mobile home at 3521 East Orlando Road; county to proceed with demolition unless repaired

Bay County code enforcement declared the mobile home at 3521 East Orlando Road unfit and unsafe and ordered that the property either be demolished or repaired under county rules. The property owner indicated she wants the mobile home removed and asked staff to proceed with demolition.
Investigator Robert Clarkson and Building Inspector Scott Thorpe testified that the single-wide mobile home had missing siding and sheeting at the gable end, rotted bottom plates, missing shims and leveling blocks, and a collapsed accessory structure in the rear. Thorpe said the rear wall and many sections of the home were "pretty shot out" and that both the mobile home and accessory structure were unfit and unsafe as inspected.
Clarkson recounted that he received a complaint Sept. 20, 2024; a family member called and described a homicide that had occurred inside the unit earlier that year and said the family had not lived there. The caller said she was unaware of the condition until gaining access and that the unit was a rental, not owned by the deceased.
The property's potential heirs asked staff to move forward with demolition; the magistrate found violations of Chapter 17 and gave the respondents 30 days to comply, but the magistrate said he would waive the fine to facilitate remediation. The magistrate directed code enforcement to schedule inspections and proceed with necessary abatement steps if the property is not remedied and set a compliance hearing for June 18, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
