City hears final monthly report from departing librarian; new librarian named and library renovation work planned

She reported that the library's volunteer literacy program has started tutor-learner pairs and that the library has completed assessments and training for volunteers. Thomas also described renovation work: the library closed for two days for bathroom tile and drain replacement and staff expect a patio refresh project to proceed after June.
The council and staff announced staffing changes: Eric Castro was named city librarian and will begin service after Thomas's departure; the library also hired a new library technician, Joseph (Joe) Davidson. Thomas noted the library is planning to expand adult literacy services and to pursue hotspot lending and private study/workspace solutions for residents.
Council members thanked Thomas for her service and congratulated Castro on his appointment. The council voted to receive and file the Carpinteria Community Library report.
